The dry seasons (December-February and June-August) offer the best wildlife viewing as animals concentrate around water sources. However, the park is accessible year-round. The wet season (March-May and September-November) provides lush scenery and is ideal for birdwatchers, with fewer tourists and lower prices.
A minimum of 3 days is recommended to experience the park adequately, including game drives, boat cruises, and visits to the falls. Visitors with more time can extend to 4-5 days to explore different sections, enjoy hot-air balloon safaris, and experience the park's diverse ecosystems and wildlife thoroughly.
The park hosts the largest population of Nile crocodiles in Africa, along with elephants, giraffes, buffalo, lions, hippopotamuses, and numerous antelope species. Over 450 bird species have been recorded, making it exceptional for birdwatching. Wildlife populations have been recovering from past conservation challenges.
Activities include game drives, Nile River boat cruises, hot-air balloon safaris, birdwatching, fishing on Lake Albert, hiking, nature walks, and photography. The iconic Murchison Falls waterfall is a must-see, where the Nile narrows to just 7 meters before plunging 43 meters through a dramatic gorge.
The park offers diverse accommodation ranging from luxury lodges (USD 200-400+ per night) to mid-range safari camps (USD 100-200 per night) and budget guesthouses (USD 30-80 per night). Camping is also available. Daily costs including activities, meals, and guides typically range from USD 250-400 depending on chosen accommodation and activities.
