About Mashatu Game Reserve

Mashatu Game Reserve is one of the largest private game reserves in southern Africa, spanning over 720 square kilometers in the Tuli Block area of northeastern Botswana. Part of the Northern Tuli Game Reserve, Mashatu is renowned as 'the land of giants' due to its magnificent Mashatu trees, massive baobabs, and most importantly, its exceptional elephant populations. The reserve features diverse landscapes including savannah, riverine forests, wetlands, dramatic sandstone cliffs, and dry riverbeds where elephants dig for water. The sparse vegetation and exclusive private nature of the reserve ensure exceptional wildlife viewing with minimal vehicle congestion. Mashatu is particularly famous for its underground viewing hides positioned at eye level with waterholes, offering unparalleled close encounters with elephant herds. The reserve contains three of the Big Five (lion, leopard, and elephant), though rhino and buffalo are absent. Predators are exceptionally well-represented, with leopards being particularly abundant and habituated to vehicles, making them relatively easy to track and observe. The reserve's management under the same ownership as the legendary MalaMala near Kruger ensures world-class safari experiences and conservation standards.
