The Marangu route, also known as the Coca-Cola route, is the least expensive route to the summit and the only route that offers the comfort of sleeping huts at every campsite. These huts are equipped with solar lights and comfortable beds with sponge mattresses and pillows, making it a more comfortable climbing experience compared to camping on other routes.
You'll stay in communal huts with bunk beds featuring sponge mattresses and pillows. The lower huts (Mandara and Kibo) have 60 beds each, while Horombo Hut has 120 beds. Bathrooms and running water are available at the two lower huts. At the final camp (Kibo), there are basic men's and ladies' latrines available.
Yes, the Marangu route is an excellent choice for first-time climbers. The 6-day itinerary includes a dedicated rest day at Horombo Hut on Day 3, which provides better acclimatization to the altitude. This extra acclimatization day significantly improves your chances of successfully reaching the summit compared to the faster 5-day option.
Three meals daily (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are included throughout the climb. All climbing groups, often from several countries around the world, share meals together in dining huts, creating a jovial and energetic atmosphere where you can meet and connect with fellow climbers from diverse backgrounds.
The package includes all park entrance fees, accommodation, three daily meals, a professional English-speaking guide, bottled water, airport transfers, all mountain transfers, your summit certificate, rescue and emergency oxygen fees, and guide/porter/cook salaries. You'll need to arrange and pay for international airfare, travel insurance, visa fees, travel vaccinations, alcoholic beverages, tips and gratuities, and personal expenses separately.
Yes, a Kilimanjaro summit certificate is included in this package. This certificate will be awarded to you upon successfully reaching the summit, serving as a memorable record of your achievement.
The 6-day itinerary includes a rest day at Horombo Hut on Day 3, which can be spent resting for acclimatization. However, if you prefer a more active experience, you have the option to climb the small peak of Mawenzi instead, allowing you to stay active while still benefiting from the altitude acclimatization at that elevation.
