Kilimanjaro International Airport

There is no entry fee for the airport itself. However, you'll need $100 USD cash for a tourist visa (payable on arrival for most nationalities). Ground transportation from JRO costs approximately $50 USD for a taxi to Arusha or Moshi. Safari packages accessed via this airport typically range $1,474-$2,440 USD per person for 3-5 day trips, including park fees, accommodation, and guides.

June to October (dry season) offers the clearest mountain views, best wildlife visibility, and optimal safari conditions. Peak tourist traffic occurs July-August and December-January. For fewer crowds and lower prices, visit December-February or March-May, though occasional rain may affect visibility. The wildebeest migration (visible via Serengeti safaris) peaks June-July and November-December.

Northern circuit parks accessible from JRO host all Big Five species: lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros. You'll also see wildebeest herds (1 million+ during migration), zebras, giraffes, cheetahs, hyenas, hippopotamuses, and over 500 bird species including secretary birds and crowned eagles.
